Lord Wilton

Violin - Guarneri del Gesù, 1742

The Lord Wilton’s voice may be the most powerful of any violin. The instrument’s response is perfectly even from its resonant bass to the highest treble notes. Unlike many del Gesùs, it has no “wolf” notes. Also unlike many del Gesùs, the violin is very easy to play. The Wilton’s tone is so powerful that some violinists have said it’s almost like the fiddle has another player inside, playing in unison. Some joke that it’s a “nuclear-powered” fiddle. Its tone is silvery and aristocratic. I owned the Lord Wilton for nearly 20 years and loved every minute. It is a perfect violin, the Apollo of violins.
