Baron d’Assignies

Violin, Antonio Stradivari, 1713

To my ear, the tone of the d'Assignies violin is complex, rich, and thick: a lavish and silken aural brocade. You can hear this for yourselves in James Ehnes' brilliant performance of Moszkowski's Guitarre. Perhaps this tonal magnificence is due in part to its pristine, ungraduated condition.
